Biostimulants
What are biostimulants?
They’re not fertilisers, not pesticides or chemicals, and therefore don’t fall under CLP regulations. They consist of natural substances: minerals, microorganisms, algae, and plant extracts. Biostimulants help the soil to become more alive and active and that is improved with seaweed extracts and microbiological fungi. Seaweed extracts include a host of trace elements and bioactive compounds which include:
Types of Biostimulants
- Polysaccharides (e.g. alginic acid, laminarin, mannitol, fucoidan)
- Amino acids (e.g. stress protecting betaines)
- Phytohormones such as Auxins, gibberellins, and cytokinins.
- Naturally occurring vitamins such as Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B12, C, D, E, choline, and carotene.
The effects of bioactive compounds are remarkable:
- Improved stress tolerance
- Increased plant defense against pests and diseases
- Greater plant growth rate
- Better fruit development
- Improved crop quality
- Greater root development and early establishment
